MY HORSE'S FEET STINK WHEN THE FARRIER IS WORKING ON THEM, DOES THIS INDICATE THRUSH?
NO, absolutely not, this is a horrible myth that appears in numerous texts. Fact is, almost every horse's feet that I work on, or have ever worked on, have had some foul odor of some form or another. Unless scrubbed with soap, and kept in a sanitary environment, horse feet are going to stink. Some of the "thrush treatment" products, sold today, actually cause the thrush to get worse.
ARE BAR SHOES ONLY FOR HORSES THAT HAVE LEG PROBLEMS?
Absolutely not. If applied correctly, bar shoes can take approximately 30 percent of strain off the flexor aspect of the equine movement, and add approximately 30 percent more endurance to a horse's performance. Eg: If a jumper starts to bump rails before completing the course, due to fatigue, equipping him with bar shoes on the hind feet can help him tremendously in the jump off...."TRAILER-EDJ" shoes are a viable "alternative" to the bar shoe, offering superb heal support, wilst' allowing the equine athlete to "load" the hocks , and use the hind end more efficiently and proficiently. "
You are starting to see a lot more "world class" horses performing in bar shoes. This is not because the horse is unsound, but because equine professionals have finally realized the value of these types of shoes.....oh, and one must be a tremendously skilled Farrier to keep a pair of "bar shoes" on!!
HOW COME HORSES IN THE WILD DON'T NEED SHOES?
Horses in the wild don't have 100 lb. plus riders to haul around. They are not ridden over jumps, raced around barrels, ridden across stones, asked to keep performing even though they have all but worn away their hooves,,,Nope, they don't do any of this. Furthermore, due to not wearing shoes, most horses don't live to be the age of our captive "four-leggers",,,,,We ask our horses to WORK, something not required of horses in the wild, and horseshoes are to horses, as work gloves are to us,,,,Sure, we could do a little labor without gloves, but your hands will start hurting eventually,,,,get that pony some shoes!!!
YOUR PRICES ARE A LITTLE HIGHER THAN SOME OF THE FARRIERS IN MY AREA, ARE YOU A SCAM ARTIST?
NO. Horseshoeing can be learned in a matter of months, BUT takes years to master, AND even after mastering horseshoeing, there is still a lot to be learned...In today's farrier world, there is too much SPECULATION and CONJECTURE being pawned off as facts....this is not a phenomenon associated with Stoddard's Advanced Shoeing.
A horse can be shod in 15 minutes, or in 2 hours, depending on the skill level and the amount of detail a farrier is willing to put into each shoe job...by using Jay Stoddard, you can rest assure that no corners will be cut, and every attention to detail will be utilized...
...One will ultimately end up saving money, even after paying a little more initially. For instance, a horse that would normally have to be reset every 4 or 5 weeks, can usually go quite a bit longer before having to be reset again using Jay Stoddard, making up for the initial increase in price. At the end of the year, the math ultimately ends up about the same.....
When you factor in the savings on vet cost, convenience of having shoes still on when you need them to be, and the immense amount of detail and knowledge that goes into one of Jay's shoe jobs, add the prodigious amounts of understanding, empathy and compassion towards your horse....Jay suddenly becomes a bargain at ANY price!!!
