Born to Bio-chemist John W. Stoddard (which he attributes his immense logic) and Rose Nelson, to whom he attributes his kind and caring nature towards animals....Jay was raised in West Alabama, where horsemanship was as common as "Cornbread and catfish". His family lived in a horse training facility for a number of years, where Jay would hone his horsemanship and farrier skills ....he put his first horseshoe on at the age of 10, that was over 25 years ago...
Since that time, Jay has devoted his life and limb to his blacksmithing career, investigating and researching every technique in the farrier world for correctness, usefulness , and also introducing many revolutionary techniques of his own. Jay leaves no stone unturned in his crusade to find all the answers and knowledge associated with sound farriery and equine science.
Jay has been a staunch advocate in the prevention and abolition of "iatrogenic" illnesses, and other perverse vet./ farrier techniques the are used for no other purposes than to extort money from the horse owner. Mechanics, doctors , farriers, vets. often use these tactics, Jay can proudly and honestly can say that he has never engaged in these types of shoddy tactics. He carries prodigious amounts of passion and a wealth knowledge in his travels as a farrier, hiring him insures you will always know that someone truly cares for your animals and has the competence to successfully treat any problems your horse may have. He understands and believes that perception and communication can often be key in successfully treating and shoeing your horse, coining the phrase "Horses and books are alot alike, they don't speak, but if ya know how to read them, they'll tell you everything."
The above picture is proof positive that Jay's work withstands the scrutiny of even the most discriminating connoisseurs of hooves...(modeled by Sir Frederick Wentz of Katie Acres Riding School.)
